Why the sky is now the limit for Riverbed SteelFusion

Riverbed has announced that SteelFusion, the industry-leading branch hyper-converged edge solution is extending its reach to Public cloud environments with support for Microsoft Azure through their StorSimple appliances and for Amazon Web Services through the AWS Storage Gateway.

Riverbed’s proposition around SteelFusion has always had great appeal enabling customer to completely remove data (and the risks associated with it) from Branches and remote offices without impacting application performance.

With this last announcement, customers now have more flexibility and choice for cloud-based data storage across remote locations and can leverage the cloud as a secondary storage tier for added capacity, backup, or for tiering in conjunction with private data center storage assets.

“We are excited to give our SteelFusion customers more options and flexibility with the ability to store their remote data in the cloud, whether it be with Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services,” said Paul O’Farrell, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SteelHead, SteelFusion and SD-WAN solutions at Riverbed. “Many of today’s enterprises are already using a hybrid IT model, with data both in the cloud and data centre. Now with access to cloud-based storage and backup capabilities with SteelFusion, our customers can easily leverage the cloud as a secondary storage tier without any impact to users at the edge.”

Riverbed is continuing to expand its SteelFusion ecosystem with leading cloud providers Microsoft and AWS, giving businesses the additional flexibility to access cloud-based storage, backup, and tiering capabilities from one centralised location – eliminating the need to invest in costly physical servers and storage devices at remote locations.

SteelFusion provides unique capabilities for greatly simplifying virtualised application management, security and data protection in remote office and branch office (ROBO) locations. By using Riverbed’s single hyper-converged appliance, SteelFusion provides businesses with an easy way to rapidly deploy and recover virtualised computing resources into remote locations.

SteelFusion provides all of the application performance, infrastructure scalability and high availability requirements that businesses require in remote locations, while enabling IT to provision, manage and centrally backup and protect all critical business data residing on or supporting remotely based applications.

By using SteelFusion, “new” branches can be quickly spun up, spun down, moved, backed-up, and completely restored in literally minutes all from the central data centre or Azure/AWS Public Clouds without requiring any technical assistance at the branch / remote office.
