Copilot Cowork Users: Action Required Before 30 June

Copilot Cowork Users: Action Required Before 30 June

Microsoft has announced that Copilot Cowork is now generally available (GA), marking a significant milestone in the evolution of enterprise AI. As part of this transition, Copilot Cowork is moving from the Frontier programme to a paid, consumption-based model. For organisations already using Cowork, there is an important deadline approaching: the current grace period ends on 30 June 2026, and from 1 July 2026, services will stop unless a transition to a paid model has been completed.

While this change introduces new licensing and consumption considerations, it also signals a broader shift in how organisations can use AI – not just as an assistant, but as a delegated digital workforce capable of executing multi-step tasks and workflows on behalf of users

Key Dates to Know

30 June 2026

The grace period for existing Copilot Cowork usage comes to an end. Organisations currently using Cowork under the Frontier programme must transition to a paid consumption model before this date.

1 July 2026

Copilot Cowork services will stop for organisations that have not completed the transition process.

What Happens If You Do Nothing?

For organisations already benefiting from Copilot Cowork, failing to transition before the deadline could have immediate consequences.

Loss of Access to Cowork Services

From 1 July, users who have not transitioned to a paid model will no longer be able to access Copilot Cowork functionality.

Disruption to AI-Driven Workflows

Any business processes, scheduled tasks or delegated workflows currently powered by Cowork could be interrupted, impacting productivity and reducing momentum across AI initiatives.

Uncertainty Around Future AI Costs

As Microsoft introduces consumption-based pricing, organisations need visibility into usage patterns and expected spend. Delaying the transition can make it harder to plan, optimise and govern AI investments effectively.

Missed Strategic Opportunities

This is more than a licensing change. Microsoft’s launch represents a shift from AI assistance towards AI delegation through agentic workflows. Organisations that take the time to review their strategy now will be better positioned to identify where AI can drive greater automation, efficiency and business value.

Beyond the Deadline: The Next Phase of Enterprise AI

Copilot Cowork represents Microsoft’s vision for the future of work—one where AI can go beyond helping employees perform tasks and instead take ownership of complex, multi-step activities across emails, files, meetings and business processes.

As this new era of AI adoption emerges, organisations need to consider:

  • How AI is being used across the business
  • Which workflows are best suited to automation and delegation
  • How to manage and govern AI usage
  • How consumption-based models will impact budgets and ROI
  • What an AI-enabled operating model looks like for the future

These conversations are becoming increasingly important as AI evolves from a productivity tool into a strategic business capability.
