Microsoft Azure Information Protection Update

Microsoft Azure Information Protection…

…..provides peace of mind, compliance and can help towards achieving GDPR compliance. Azure Information Protection is a cloud-based solution that helps your business to classify, label, and protect its documents and emails. This can be done automatically by administrators who define rules and conditions, manually by users, or a combination where users are given recommendations. Azure Information protection is part of the Microsoft “Enterprise Mobility and Security E5”, “Secure Productive Enterprise E5” SKUs or as part of your “Azure Active Directory P2” subscriptions.

With Azure Information Protection, once content has been classified (and optionally protected by Azure RMS), users (and IT) can then track and control how it is used, access and shared. From here it’s easy to analyse data flows to gain insight into your business, detect risky behaviours and take corrective measures, track access to documents, prevent data leakage or misuse, and so on.

Why is Azure Rights Management so secure?

Data is protected and encrypted using Azure Rights Management (Azure RMS). This technology is integrated with other Microsoft cloud services and applications, including Office 365 and Azure Active Directory, but can also be used with other line-of-business applications and information protection solutions from third party software vendors, whether these applications and solutions are on-premises, or in the cloud.

This protection technology uses encryption, identity, and authorization policies. Similarly to the labels that are applied, protection that is applied by using Rights Management stays with the documents and emails, independently of the location—inside or outside your organisation, networks, file servers, and applications. This information protection solution keeps you in control of your data, even when it is shared with other people.

Azure Information Projection is for everyone. Yes, it is a great step towards achieving GDPR compliance, but is great for general common sense approach to protecting company and personal information from leaking accidently or maliciously into the wrong hands while providing a simple “self destruct” and instant “access revocation” for any sensitive information.
