Waverley Borough Council has its main office in Godalming, Surrey and
three smaller offices in Farnham, Cranleigh and Haslemere. The Council
employs approximately 450 staff, the majority of whom are based at the
Godalming office.
Waverley Borough Council needed to conform to Surrey County Council IP
address standards as SCC was implementing a number of County applications
such as VoIP. Also required were better internet services to comply with
future e-government requirements. Finally a faster and cheaper RAS solution
was required for remote offices and home workers.
Cisilion moved Waverley Borough Council to an RFC 1918 IP address standard
for the Council’s internal network and implemented IP services to support users
access to the Internet and the necessary security to protect the Council’s network
from attacks using a Cisco PIX 515 firewall.
A Cisco VPN 3005 Concentrator was installed to support site-to-site and home
workers VPN connections back to the Council’s central network.
The solution has provided Waverley Borough Council with better internet services,
coupled with better security to protect the Council’s network. It has also bought
the Council up to date with the requirements to conform to Surrey County Council’s
IP address standards. Remote workers can now connect securely to the central network
whereby increasing productivity thus resulting in cost savings for Waverley Borough
Council.
"Cisilion supplied hardware and consultancy to provide an
efficient upgrade to a properly designed network configuration. The Council has achieved
cost savings by replacing existing leased lines and ISDN connections. We have also
achieved cost savings and increased control by bringing web and mail services in house".
Phil Tucker, IT Client Services Manager.
