The e-Learning initiative

Launched in 2001, the e-Learning Foundation aims to significantly increase access to ICT (Information Communication Technology) in education.

A key aspect of the e-Learning initiative is to ensure that every school pupil in the United Kingdom will have access to a personal portable computer within the next five years.

Information Technology today develops at a frightening pace and simply keeping abreast of the latest developments can be a full-time job. Broadband internet connectivity, wireless technology, security, virtual private networks - all these technologies can provide huge gains in efficiency and potentially large cost savings too.

But in today's jungle of technical jargon and acronyms, how can people who are already stretched in their daily working lives find the time to keep informed about how these new technologies can enable them to work smarter, manage budgets and invest with confidence in the right technologies.

Schools know that they need to be looking at new technologies. This is exactly where Cisilion, in partnership with the e-Learning foundation, can help you.

The e-Learning Foundation, a registered charity, aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all children, irrespective of their background, can have access to a portable computer for use in school and at home. Cisilion are perfectly placed to help the e-Learning Foundation, and you, acheive this aim.

As a Cisco premier partner, we are always up to date on the latest networking and internet technologies. With our superbly qualified technical services team, we have the know-how to provide surveys and recommendations on how schools can best use modern networking technologies to implement the solutions they need. With our seminars, we can pass on to you the information you need to make the right decisions.

The potential impact of the Foundation's initiative is enormous and benefits will include:

  • reducing the disadvantage that the "digital divide" creates
  • assisting pupils to access new ways of learning and new learning resources
  • ensuring that learning through technology can happen both at school and at home
  • raising children's IT literacy levels
  • enhancing personal job prospects
  • reducing skill shortages to benefit the UK economy
  • placing young people at the centre of developments to promote connected communities
